HB 282 (2025)
Revise retirement benefits for police and firefighters that changed in 2011
This bill became law.
Increases the maximum compensation for first responders' critical injury benefits from $500,000 to $1,000,000.
After some late-developing budget negotiations, the state Senate amended this bill to revise retirement benefits for some Group II members (police and firefighters). Gov. Ayotte supports fully restoring benefits that were changed about a decade ago and said she would veto the budget over the issue. The Senate therefore amended this bill to address Gov. Ayotte's concerns. The amended bill does not completely restore the benefits, but is closer to Gov. Ayotte's proposal.
The amended bill also delays a cut to school funding for Manchester.
