SB 100 (2025)

Add a requirement for intent before Board of Education sanction for teaching certain concepts related to discrimination

This bill did not become law.

Last updated 2025-12-07 11:34 am
Summary:

Repeals the law that makes it a violation of the educator code of conduct to teach that certain classes of people are superior or inferior, inherently or unconsciously racist, or should be treated differently based on their race, gender, etc. The law would still contain the option of legal action; this bill removes disciplinary sanction by the state Board of Education.

The Senate rewrote the bill. The new bill requires a teacher to "intentionally or knowingly" violate the law in order to face disciplinary sanction. That is an attempt to address a federal court ruling against the underlying law.
