SB 242 (2023)

Join federal program to offer free school meals based on Medicaid eligibility

Summary:

Directs the Department of Health and Human Services and the Department of Education to participate in the Demonstration Project for states using Medicaid eligibility data to directly certify students for free and reduced priced school meals. This would allow the department to automatically offer free school meals based on Medicaid enrollment. The Senate passed and then tabled this bill, which often indicates support to include this spending item in the state budget bill.
