NH House Grafton County District 18

"Donald McFarlane was elected in 2024 to represent Grafton County District 18 in the New Hampshire House, where he serves on the House Judiciary Committee. In Orange, he serves on the planning board and budget committee and as a trustee of the trust funds. During his first term, Donald sponsored successful legislation requiring government-issued photo identification to vote, establishing a vulnerability disclosure program to help secure New Hampshire’s election systems, prohibiting the Grafton County Attorney from maintaining a private law practice, and eliminating unnecessary title and bill-of-sale paperwork at routine vehicle-registration renewals. Donald has also worked to protect constitutional rights. He secured final legislative passage of a measure limiting intrusive questions on applications for licenses to carry a pistol or revolver, advanced additional pro-Second Amendment legislation through the House, and led House adoption of resolutions reaffirming the right of people of all persuasions to keep and bear arms and promoting greater diversity of viewpoints at New Hampshire’s public colleges and universities. A graduate electrical engineer and cybersecurity leader with more than three decades of experience, Donald has served as a chief information security officer and advised major organizations on cybersecurity, risk management, resilience, and incident response. He is NACD Directorship Certified and spent more than a decade serving his community as a volunteer EMT and EMS chief. He previously served in the Royal Corps of Signals. A resident of Orange since 2008, Donald became a United States citizen in 2002. He and his wife, Karen, have been married since 2012 and live in Orange with their son, Cameron, and their Shetland sheepdog, Neep."
