Position on Issues

Do you support the “Education Freedom Account” program, which gives students access to the per-pupil share of state school funding to spend on private school or home school expenses?

"The only way I'd vote for this 'sleight of hand' ruse would be if there was enough additional taxes raised to pay for the private use of public funds. Pay the bills, in other words."

Citizens Count Issue Survey, 2024

Should New Hampshire ban abortions during the first trimester (e.g. after 6 weeks gestation)?

"Stop using the government to force women to do what sometimes is not in their best interests. Restore their reproductive rights, in other words. When men start getting pregnant, we can have this discussion."

Citizens Count Issue Survey, 2024

Should New Hampshire ban abortions during the second trimester (e.g. after 15 weeks gestation)?

"Stop using the government to force women to do what sometimes is not in their best interests. Restore their reproductive rights, in other words. When men start getting pregnant, we can have this discussion."

Citizens Count Issue Survey, 2024

Should NH add an income tax on earned income?

"What is known as the 'rentier' class should pay a land tax. Our nation is smothering under the weight of the rentier class."

Citizens Count Issue Survey, 2024

Should NH add a broad-based sales tax?

"I think we should pay the bills. Were it not for federal subsidies the state would be bankrupt."

Citizens Count Issue Survey, 2024

Should New Hampshire lower business taxes?

"To repeat, I consider it my primary job in the House to pay the bills. We don't do that. We show a 100 million dollar "surplus" for a 15 plus billion dollar budget. That's irresponsible, in my view."

Citizens Count Issue Survey, 2024

Should New Hampshire add a tax on capital gains?

"Again, we do not tax enough to even come close to paying bills. Municipalities are struggling to pay their bills with high property taxes caused by an irresponsible state legislature. This failure to responsibly pay the public bills is a national problem, by the way. Purportedly we are the 'richest' nation on the planet. OK. Why do we have a massive population of poor people (over 40 % of the population)? What about the homeless problem? That's a private market failure caused by a massive allocation of wealth transferred up to a class of Oligarchs we've managed to create the past 3 decades. This even has an economics phrase (the 'allocative effect')."

Citizens Count Issue Survey, 2024

Should New Hampshire government do more to address climate change?

"We should do more. But everyone should do more. I have a relative who installed some solar panels about 10 years ago. His home is in the North Country. He has paid one electric bill in those 10 years, and that was only because he'd been out of the house on extended vacation. Anyone who thinks we can keep using limited fuels for ever, is either a madman or an economist."

Citizens Count Issue Survey, 2024

Do you support giving voters who register without ID on Election Day a ballot that only counts if they return identifying documents to the state before a deadline?

"I thought we already did that. You can vote, but you need to provide proof of your eligibility. There should be a time certain, of course, beyond which the undocumented vote cannot count. I'm not sure the state should be handling all this. Municipalities already do the job."

Citizens Count Issue Survey, 2024

Should the state do more to encourage municipalities to remove zoning barriers to housing development?

"The cities are doing their job. The suburbs don't. They have descriminatory zoning, with 2,3, even 4 acre plot zoning for single family homes. A joke. We also need to invest in our transportation infrastructure, which is inadequate."

Citizens Count Issue Survey, 2024

Do you support legislation to expand the net energy metering system capacity cap from 1 MW to 5 MW for all residential and commercial customers in New Hampshire?

"Why not? Especially if we can increase our use of sustainable energy sources."

Citizens Count Issue Survey, 2024

Should New Hampshire guarantee the right to access abortion before 24 weeks?

"Stop using the government to force women to do what sometimes is not in their best interests. Restore their reproductive rights, in other words. When men start getting pregnant, we can have this discussion."

Citizens Count Issue Survey, 2024

Should the state increase funding for child care providers?

"This is where the federal government should spend more money. And, per usual, the NH Legislature fails its primary responsibility--to adequately fund a government."

Citizens Count Issue Survey, 2024

Do you support New Hampshire’s current system of public school funding, with about two-thirds of total funding coming from local property taxes?

"A rogue Supreme Court ruled that public education money can be used for private education schools, IF the state hired a non-profit administrator to dole out the cash. Same Court eliminated state restrictions on campaign finances, again if a non profit trust (PAC) doled out the cash. Thus, the wealthiest Americans can anonymously donate as much money as they want. Campaign bribery is legitimate in America. Boss Tweed must be laughing in his grave."

Citizens Count Issue Survey, 2024

Should New Hampshire legalize the recreational use of marijuana by allowing home-growing and private use without sales?

"We manage liquor stores quite nicely. There's four or five 'good' strains of cannabis that should be allowed sold to the public. All the rest of it is, to put it bluntly, 'crap.' I know someone who grows the 'good' stuff in Maine."

Citizens Count Issue Survey, 2024

Should New Hampshire legalize the recreational use of marijuana by licensing growers and private retail locations?

"We manage liquor stores quite nicely. There's four or five 'good' strains of cannabis that should be allowed sold to the public. All the rest of it is, to put it bluntly, 'crap.' I know someone who grows the 'good' stuff in Maine."

Citizens Count Issue Survey, 2024

Should New Hampshire legalize the recreational use of marijuana by establishing state-run cannabis stores?

"We manage liquor stores quite nicely. There's four or five 'good' strains of cannabis that should be allowed sold to the public. All the rest of it is, to put it bluntly, 'crap.' I know someone who grows the 'good' stuff in Maine."

Citizens Count Issue Survey, 2024

Should New Hampshire raise the minimum wage?

"Yes, Just another cause of our failure to distribute income fairly."

Citizens Count Issue Survey, 2024

Should New Hampshire add legal protections for residents of other states who travel here for health care related to abortion or gender transition?

"Of course."

Citizens Count Issue Survey, 2024

Should New Hampshire repeal the ban on abortion after 24 weeks gestation?

"Stop using the government to force women to do what sometimes is not in their best interests. Restore their reproductive rights, in other words. When men start getting pregnant, we can have this discussion."

Citizens Count Issue Survey, 2024

Should NH require local law enforcement to cooperate with federal immigration enforcement?

"Why would they not cooperate?"

Citizens Count Issue Survey, 2024

Should NH pass stricter gun control laws?

"You need a license to drive a car. Gun owners should have proof of their knowledge and ability to own lethal weapons. And as with cars, there should be a legitimate 'paper trail' of who sells or buys what."
