In 2024 Rep. Sweeney voted against establishing a climate and health protection program (SB 496).
In 2025 Rep. Sweeney voted against HB 106, which would have established a commission to determine the financial cost of climate damage to New Hampshire and methods of recouping such costs. Rep. Sweeney also voted in favor of HCR 1, a resolution that calls for policymakers to fully consider all relevant information and factors pertaining to climate change as climate policy is developed. That resolution specifically called out "climate alarmism."

On the 2020 Citizens Count issue survey, Sweeney indicated he was "for" a ban on abortion after 24 weeks gestation, with exceptions for rape/incest and health complications. Sweeney also voted in favor of HB 625, a 2021 bill to prohibit abortion after 24 weeks gestation, unless there is a medical emergency. The bill did not include exceptions for rape or incest.
